MUHURU: (KENYA)

This bizarre, armor plated, club tailed creature is said to dwell deep within the impenetrable jungles of West Africa… and there are some who have speculated that it is a 21st century example of a living dinosaur!

Although there is not much in the way of photographic or biological evidence regarding this unusual animal’s existence, the general consensus among cryptozoological researchers is that the Muhuru is yet another Jurassic relic — much like its famous Congolese cousin, the MOKELE-MBEMBE – which allegedly makes its home in the dense, all too forbidding jungles of West Africa.

Unlike the Mokele-M’Bembe, which is legendary for is viciously territorial disposition, the Muhuru — which has been seen primarily in Kenya — is not known to be terribly aggressive.

Described by eyewitnesses as a heavily armored reptilian beast with large, bony plates jutting out of its spine, there is little wonder that more than a few investigators have speculated that this creature may well be a surviving species of the plant-eating dinosaur called the Stegosaurus.

Thought to have become extinct about 150 million years ago, the bus-sized Stegosaurus was a large, herbivorous quadruped from the Late Jurassic period. Due in no small part to its huge, triangular spinal ridges and distinctive mace-like tail, this beast has become one of the most popular dinosaurs ever to have existed.

That having been noted, the eyewitness descriptions of this Muhuru’s unique armor plating and intimidating club-like tail would seem to indicate that — unlike the spike tailed and triangle scaled stegosaurus — this beast may more akin to the squat, armadillo like dinosaur known as the Ankylosaur.

Ankylosaur were bulky, armor plated, quadrupeds with short, powerful limbs and — very often — clubbed tales which it used to fend off predators. First known to have appeared in China during the early Jurassic Period, these unique dinos  managed to survive at least until the end of the Cretaceous Period, which is when they developed their distinctive armaments.

This is one of those “I wish it were true, but” cryptids. For me anyway. In this case, I wish it were true, but an ankylosaur is just too big to go unnoticed for so long. Though I’ll concede to the point that size isn’t exactly mentioned here. I’ve long thought that a small dinosaur (smaller than a horse) could go unnoticed for all this time. A non-avian dinosaur anyway.

What you said about the creature’s size makes sense. We’ve often thought that there are at least some dinosaur-like species still lingering on Earth, but they probably are not authentic relic species, so much as evolutionary descendants who’ve managed to maintain key physical traits from their Jurassic or Cretaceous ancestors.

One might surmise that if a species of dinosaur had managed to survive into the modern era, it may well have evolved into an “environmentally appropriate” size. Still, the sketchiness of eyewitness reports regarding the Muhuru have led us to put this into the “It may well be true, but let’s not jump to any conclusions” file.

    Whoah!!!Diosaurs…alive?!What is happening,time anomalies?

How big is this animal supposed to be again? Rather than a living dinosaur, I’d place my bet on some sort of glyptodon like creature.

One of the stumbling blocks – the antiquity of species – is only a stumbling block if the age of the Dinosaur era is truly as long ago as claimed. Given the wobbly dating used, it doesn’t stretch credibility anywhere near as much if they are only 100,000 or 1,000,000 years out of place.

Some actual reputable reliable science on dating would be nifty.

I am now 58 years old. And I have heard of this since 1960. I have read many paragraph in magazines books, even in tv with now groups of people going to investigate. but it hides and does not let it self be seen. here’s a food for thought:I have read in the bible a long time ago where it says that God has hidden monster in the seas earth and so on, every year someone sees something flying, swimming, or walking all over our world. Not all are seeing things.

Still leaves them with 60+ million years at the least. Much as I’d love to see a real life dinosaur, I think no matter how we split it that explanation is pretty hard to accept.
