RIFT VALLEY MONSTER: (KENYA)

West Africa is the reputed home of numerous cryptids, but none perhaps more intriguing than this sail-finned, saurian beast.

The Great Rift Valley — which was so named by Scottish explorer John Walter Gregory — divides Kenya almost straight down the length of the nation, essentially separating east from west. This region is characterized by inhospitable desert, fertile farmland, flat arid plains, steep cliffs and at least one very usual, scaly, fin-backed monster.

Reports of this creature (or creatures) have been sparse to say the least, but eyewitnesses have indicated that the Great Rift Valley is the home of a large, spiny-finned, carnivore, which a few cryptozoologists have speculated may actually be an animal known as the Dimetrodon grandis.

Contrary to popular belief, the Dimetrodon was not a dinosaur; rather it was a unique, mammal-like reptile, which some scientists have speculated may even have been distantly related to the human race! Notable for the large, sail-like fin which adorns its spine, this specimen from the family known as sphenacodonts, would make for a formidable sight, to say the least.

That having been said, many fortean researchers remain skeptical regarding the existence of this animal, stating that the tourist infested Kenya could not possibly conceal a creature such as this.

Of course, there is precedence to the contrary, including the recently discovered Congolese primate colloquially known as the LION KILLER APE. Beyond this is the fact that Africa has long been renowned for harboring allegedly prehistoric beasts such as the MOKELE-M’BEMBE, EMELA-NTOUKA and the KONGAMATO.

It’d be nice to read the actual accounts of obscure creatures like this. With such obscure creatures that we have only hearsay to go on and no eyewitness testimony or physical evidence, it’s very hard to determine if such creatures merit serious examination.

If this creature does exist though, I doubt it would be a Dimetrodon as no fossils of that particular beast have been found in Africa, its range restricted to North America and (I think) Europe. If there is a creature responsible for the rumored Kenyan beast, I’d place my bet on convergent evolution.

Now here we go, I can sink my teeth into this. The possiblity that a reptilian Cryptid may be living in the rift valley, is quite possible. Considering how agrssive desert dwelling reptiles hunt for food, lots of villagers would be spooked. A large monitor type reptile with the sail fin adaption for the shady areas of the rift, makes sense.(No I dont believe its a Dimetrodon)A completely undiscovered species, overlooked by science. Makes sense to me.

The Great Rift Valley Monster is a strange cryptid what with its dimetrodon-like characteristics.A living dinosuar is a possibility but to me it sounds like a large moniter lizard that had adapted to a hot enviorment with no shade is likely the answer but there is the possibility that its just a made up story
